ShopAgentic, a European startup founded by Alexander Ringsdorff (CEO) and Kai-Thomas Krause (CPAO), announced a €1.9M pre-seed round (Retailgentic) led by May Ventures and Greenfield Capital, with participation from approximately nine entrepreneur and business-angel investors. The co-founders bring two decades of e-commerce software experience from roles at Magento, CouchCommerce, NewStore, and commercetools.
Unlike traditional monolithic or headless platforms, ShopAgentic is architected as a "squad of agents" designed for a future where AI agents are the primary buyers (Retailgentic). The platform incorporates "ephemeral UIs"—interfaces generated on demand—and aims to abstract away protocol complexity so merchants can operate in an agent-driven commerce environment without deep technical integration work. For commerce practitioners, this represents a fundamental shift: the platform is built to handle agent traffic at scale, addressing the reality that AI-driven commerce is displacing traditional human-centric buying patterns.
ShopAgentic will make its debut at K5 Berlin (June 22–24), including a business-user AI hackathon (Retailgentic). The startup's thesis—that legacy platforms, even those the founders helped build, are not architected for the agentic era—positions it as a bet on fundamental platform reinvention rather than incremental modernization.
